PressPausePlay is the latest on my list of favorite documentaries.

“The digital revolution of the last decade has unleashed creativity and talent of people in an unprecedented way, unleashing unlimited creative opportunities.

But does democratized culture mean better art, film, music and literature or is true talent instead flooded and drowned in the vast digital ocean of mass culture? Is it cultural democracy or mediocrity?

This is the question addressed by PressPausePlay, a documentary film containing interviews with some of the world’s most influential creators of the digital era.”

Focusing mostly on music and film, PressPausePlay gives enough information and insight to start the conversation about other types of art and design as well. While it doesn’t necessarily talk about Interior Design, I can still relate its basic points to my line of work. Think about how easy it is to put up a website and print some business cards in this day in age… A few quick steps and you’ve formed a creative ‘business’. Its becoming easier every day for anyone to be a photographer (instagram a bunch of stuff and put it on a website), or to be a DJ (mix it up in garage band and put it on youtube), and so on… It’s really scary to those in the creative world that make their living in creative fields. So what can we do? Just keep trying to be the best. Here’s a great article fro BizLadies / Design Sponge on how to be in the top percent of your field.
